Bike Hayward Interactive Map
This last September 6th we lost our friend Chris Peña, and we are working on installing a bike memorial to remember him.
And just like we want to ensure Chris isn’t forgotten, we want to ensure that all other road traffic victims in hayward are remembered, so we built an interactive map of all fatal crashes in Hayward since 2012, using The Injury Mapping System from UC Berkeley and crowdsourcing by our Bike Hayward members.
We also hoping this map is used by city officials to prioritize safety improvements in Hayward.
Fata Crashes💔: This icons represent crashes where someone was fatally hit. Many of these accidents can be prevented with proper implementation of traffic calming measures
New Realignment on Whitman: This is the newly proposed route for the East Bay Greenway which was previously planned to be implemented on Mission Blvd
Mission Blvd Alignment: This is the alignment of the East Bay Greenway along Mission Blvd, prior to the October 2023 proposal by the city of Hayward to move this project to Whitman.
♿Accessibility to Proposed Whitman Alignment: this layer highlights the lack of accessibility from the east side of the railway tracks to the new propose alignment of the East Bay Greenway.
